156 Illegal Buildings in Royal Penjaringan Area Torn Down

Joint personmel from Satpol PP, Police, national army (TNI), PT. KAI, PT. PLN, and Penjaringan Sub-district PPSU, tore down 156 illegal buildings in the Gg Royal area, RW 13 Penjaringan Urban Village, North Jakarta, Wednesday (9/20).

The number could still increase, so we keep doing sweeping for demolishment

Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Arifin said the demolishment was carried out because the buildings in the area did not have permits and violated Bylaw Number 8/2007 on Public Order. Allegedly, this location was indicated to be a place for prostitution practices.

"We're not preparing for relocation because the building is a business premises in the form of a cafe that provides entertainers. Then it falls into the category of areas with high crime rates," he explained.

Jalan Baturaya Area Cleared from Illegal Buildings

Afterward, his party would intensify monitoring in a bid to prevent the similar case in the future. Moreover, the land is also used as a railway track.

He would coordinate with PT KAI, thus they can use 3,000-square-meter-wide land as green open space (RTH).

"It is used as a RTH, we will realize it by doing tree planting," he concluded.

North Jakarta Civil Servant Investigation and Satpol PP Enforcement Section Head, Purnama stated his party was targeting completion of the demolishment in the next day or two. As of this afternoon, 156 illegal buildings had been torn down.

"The number could still increase, so we keep doing sweeping for demolishment," he stressed.
